Manure Season: A Success Story

Manure Season: A Success Story

Going into the winter with plenty of room in the manure pit sure does ease some stress. Check out this video to hear from Dan Brick from Brickstead Dairy, LLC, who shares how he got to this point and some of the application strategies he used this year.

Drag Hose Manure Application

Deer Run Dairy LLC teamed up with DK Demo Farms and Heim Brothers Custom LLC this summer to use a drag hose system to apply manure to standing corn. This type of application is an excellent way to get manure out on a growing crop with little/no disturbance to the soil.

No-Till Planting: New Horizons Dairy

Check out this video of Derek Van De Hey no-till planting into a field of oats and radishes. Conservation practices improve infiltration rates and soil stability, which allowed Derek to apply spring manure after planting was completed.

Maximizing Your Forage

Brey Cycle Farm LLC has been using no-till planting and cover crops to introduce diversity into their system and to help keep their valuable top soil protected, all while building soil health and structure.

No-Till Pumpkins

Check out these no-till pumpkins planted by Stan Kaczmarek and his cousins! After 2019, the soil loss from the heavy rains led Stan to rethink their pumpkin plantings. In the spring of 2020, they frost-seeded oats to keep the soil on the ground. After burning it off, they no-till planted their pumpkins into the cover […]

Planting into Cover Crops

Stopped out at Kane Farms today to look at their corn. Not only do they have about half of their corn planted, they already have great emergence. The combination of no-till planting and cover crops have made it possible for Pat to get out in the fields despite the heavy rains we’ve been experiencing!

Adding Cover Crop Diversity

It’s always great when you can find ways to add diversity into your system, but finding those windows can sometimes be a challenge. Earlier this month, Deer Run Dairy LLC, with the DK Demo Farms, made the decision to add red clover into a field that had a late season planting of winter wheat. While […]
