Adding Cover Crop Diversity

It’s always great when you can find ways to add diversity into your system, but finding those windows can sometimes be a challenge. Earlier this month, Deer Run Dairy LLC, with the DK Demo Farms, made the decision to add red clover into a field that had a late season planting of winter wheat. While the winter wheat is beginning to grow, Derek decided that this would be a great opportunity to add diversity into the field, while also planning for the fall. The plan for this field is to plant green, spray off the winter wheat, and hopefully maintain enough red clover to provide year-round cover, which will save time later this fall.
