LIVE from the Field: Diversified Cover Crop Soil Pit

We went #LIVEfromtheField at Augustian Farms LLC with Aaron Augustian and Nick Guilette. Fields coming out of alfalfa tend to have issues with compaction due to heavy truck traffic. So Augustian Farms LLC planted a mix of tillage radish, purple-top turnips, winter rye, and red clover. The radish and turnips help reduce compaction, while also pulling up nitrogen that’s released from the alfalfa die off. The rye and clover will over-winter, so that Aaron can come back plant green in 2021. Aaron and Nick showed us how valuable these cover crops have been at the surface, as well as below the soil’s surface
