Grazing into Winter!
Source: Lance Klessig Regenerative Agriculture Advocate
Our cows have 4 legs for a reason. They can graze through snow on stockpiled forage or cover crops if we design a system based on this in mind. This works regardless if you farm in Wisconsin or ranch in the Dakotas. While it may be easier to feed bales, silage and the like in a dry lot, we are missing out on a huge opportunity. Not only to save money, but also we can feed our soil biology at the same time. There are significant benefits to grazing late into the season. Much of this starts with a changed mindset.
