Cover Crop On Prevented Planting Acres
Source: Big Pine Watershed Group
Due to an unusually wet spring in 2019 Benton County Indiana farmer Phil Atkinson was unable to plant one of his fields to either corn or soybeans. Later in the 2019 growing season, Phil planted a multi-species cover crop blend on this parcel in order to suppress weed populations. The benefits he received from this cover crop blend went way beyond weed suppression. In this video Phil is interviewed by Leslie Fisher, Resource Specialist with the Benton County Indiana Soil and Water Conservation District.
