An Innovation for Using Cane Leaf Residue to Reduce Runoff: Good Lands Episode 3

Buddy Oubre, owner of Buddy Oubre Farms Inc., partnered with St. Martin and Iberia Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs), the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and the LSU AgCenter to test a cane harvester modification design that he patented. This modification would prove successful in directing most of the cane leaf residue into the furrow and away from the row tops, effectively providing a tracking surface for the combine and preventing row damage, resulting in less soil erosion and agricultural runoff making its way into local watersheds.
